Thirsk-based Langver, a leading producer of ratchet tensioners for the transport and logistics industry, has launched a new coating to replace the widely used Hexavalent Chromium, also known as Chromium VI. Langard, the new brand of coating, was developed in response to the EU and HSE’s upcoming attempted ban on all forms of Chromium VI from 2024.
Langver is known for its high-quality specifications, craftsmanship and attention to detail, which has helped them build a global customer base. The company supplies 90% of UK trailer manufacturers, as well as customers in the USA, Canada, Australia and mainland Europe.
The development of Langard, which encompasses trivalent passivation, was the result of collaboration between Langver’s team of experts and chemists. The new coating is environmentally friendly and boasts excellent corrosion resistance results. In lab tests, it showed a 140 per cent improvement in performance in controlled conditions, tracking 600 plus salt spray hours compared to 250 for the current coating. A premium version of Langard offers over 1000 plus salt spray hours.
Scott Taylor, joint managing director at Langver, said: “This has been on our radar for a number of years, and it isn’t our style to wait for the rest of the market to move, so we started working on a solution. There was an expectation within the industry that we would have to accept a lower level of quality to comply with the new regulations, so we are extremely pleased with the results.”
Langard is the first of its kind within the transport sector and is exclusive to Langver products. It will be used to coat all Langver tensioners from 1st July 2023 onwards.
